Dr. Vellanki’s clinical expertise centers on diagnostic evaluation, suicide and violence risk assessment, treatment planning, psychopharmacologic management, and hospital-based standards of psychiatric care. He has significant experience in multidisciplinary treatment coordination and the management of complex cases involving mood disorders, psychotic disorders, behavioral dysregulation, and co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
He currently serves as an Inpatient Psychiatrist at the University of Louisville, where he treats pediatric and adolescent patients admitted for acute psychiatric stabilization. His responsibilities include management of safety concerns, involuntary commitments, medication decisions, and coordination with treatment teams and families. He also provides telepsychiatry services across multiple states, delivering diagnostic evaluations and medication management in both inpatient and telehealth settings.
Dr. Vellanki serves as a psychiatric expert witness in medical malpractice and related matters involving standards of care in inpatient psychiatric settings. His expert services include comprehensive medical record review, written opinions and affidavits, and deposition and trial testimony.
His clinical experience includes the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, autism spectrum disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
Dr. Vellanki earned his B.S. in Finance from The Ohio State University, his M.S. in Biomedical Science and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toledo, and completed residency and fellowship training in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Louisville.
He is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana.
